Okay, let's do some catch-up.
So for the foreseeable future, I'll be working with my friend Jake to helping him scale up his moving business.
Jake's been running this moving business for the last nine years. He built it up from scratch and wants to take it to the next level.
So he wants me to use whatever sales acumen I have to help him do that.
So for the past two days, I've been riding along with him and his crew, two very cool and funny young guys, getting the lay of the land.
While riding with him on jobs, we talked about some of his goals and spitballing ideas. It's been fun.
Hell, it's been a while since I've been to our local landfill.
What's weird to me is being outside doing stuff.
I've been trapped in an office, behind a computer, for the last some odd years. Since I started moving with Jake, I've been both physically and mentally exhausted, which is rare since I've only been mentally exhausted.
Which reminds me, boy, I need another shape other than lumbering round.
I don't move much since I've been lumbering around taking pictures and videos. My first step is to up Jake's marketing game since his business now is mostly a referral base.
I need to fill up Jake's calendar with jobs. The more Jake gets paid, the more I get paid. See how that works.
While working with Jake, I'm also trying to get my photo and video business off the ground.
But my main focus is going to be helping Jacob scale his business. So we've got some goals in mind.
I've already got a few ideas in mind, and we'll see how they work.
The one thing I did ask for is a snapshot of how his business is doing now.
One of my mistakes from the last couple of jobs is that I wasn't active in writing down and quantifying my successes.
Like at my last job, I was so involved with my daily and monthly goals I didn't write them down and internalize them.
That was a mistake because I needed that info while looking for another job. So I have a vague understanding of what I did, but nothing concrete that I could point to and say look, this is what I did to help my company.
So I'm keeping that in the back of my mind. Write down and monitor everything.
I've might have said this before; this is scary stuff. There's no guarantee here like there is in other opportunities. I'm not building from the ground up, but it's pretty close.
It's either I know my stuff and will help Jacob, or I've been talking out of my ass for the last couple of years. There are no two ways about it.
Like today, we don't have any jobs today. So that means Jacob's not making money, and his guys aren't making any. That's no Bueno.
My new job is to make sure this doesn't happen. If Jacob wants to work, there's work to be had.
This latest venture isn't going to be easy, but then again, life and work were never meant to be.
