Like I Was Saying…
It’s official, the GOP was officially Chunks holding the map this election cycle. (That’s a Goonies reference BTW)
The way it’s looking right now, the GOP might have a slight margin in the House and maybe, if Herschel Walker jukes his way to win in Georgia, a slight majority in the Senate.
Granted, slight majorities would slow down Biden’s agenda, but they should’ve had more to work with in terms of the majority.
So why did Republicans do so poorly this election cycle?
Of course, there was overturning Roe versus Wade.
I don’t think America is Pro-Abortion, rather it’s Pro-Choice. Feminism has done a brilliant job of framing the debate as woman’s right to choose. Nobody, especially women, like being told what they can and cannot do in a free society.
The left has done a brilliant job of dismissing the potential human life in the womb. The human being, inside the womb is no more than a clump of cells.
Now I’d seen polling saying that abortion ranked low in concerns about issues that were on the ballot, but it depended on who you asked.
Young people, in all but a few places, came out in droves. I assume these folks, who don’t have to worry too much, about the practicality of living in the big bad world, could vote on principle.
What could possibly suck for them is when they leave the university bubble.
If I’m reading the tea leaves right, gas is going to go up, the economy is going to go into a recession, and companies are slowing their hiring.
Dems are celebrating their youth vote now, but wait until these young folks are hardened by the world.
At least that’s the hope.
Also, the Republican Party is fractured right now.
There’s two factions vying for control of the party, the mainstream Republican wing and MAGA Party Wing of the party. Some call the MAGA Wing the populist wing of the party.
So with being so fractured, Republicans had no unifying message other than stop Joe Biden.
The Establishment wing didn’t want to give credence to the MAGA Wing and the MAGA Wing kept poking at the Establishment Wing.
It was a freaking mess.
The other thing that I think effected the election were mail in ballots. Some states went back to normal voting procedures while others didn’t go back to business as usual.
Republicans, bless our heart, like to vote on Election Day.
So the Dems have the advantage there.
I’m just glad I live in Texas. We went soiled red and retired (for now O’Rourke’s) political ambitions. He’ll be back.
If I were a betting man, I say he runs for Corynsn seat. I think last I saw O’Rourke spent $160 million dollars on all three of his campaign’s in the last three years.
Yikes!
O’Rourke will be back and maybe his forth time will be a charm.
Anyways that’s how it’s looking from my side of the world.
The other day I was like Mikey counting on my fingers, waiting for the GOP to snatch defeat from jaws of victory.
