Audible

I do love a good audible.

I wasn’t supposed to pick up the U-Haul this morning, but I did. I wasn’t supposed to run the first move of the day, but I did - kinda of. I wasn’t supposed to go the second move of the day and do haul away, but I did. I wasn’t supposed to drop off the haul away at the Salvation Army, but I did.

I was supposed to do sales today, but instead, because of a change in plans, I did all the above.

And truth be told, I like being out.

It surprises me now that I had an office job for so long. I started working for a telecommunications company back in ‘99 and I thought I'd hit the jackpot. I'd show up to an office, sit in a cubicle for eight to ten hours a day, make some mad cash, and then call it a day.

Then, there was tech support, then customer service, then inside sales, then sales manager, all in an office. I tought I was happy.

But soon driving the same route to the office begin to be a grind. Thing is, my daily commutes were long. Some commutes were an hour to work and due to traffic, an hour and half back.

Then, one day, all I could wish for was a chance to work from home. If I could just cut that hour of getting ready before I had to drive an hour and change to work and the cut out the long drive back, the hour to “decompress,” then finally I would be happy.

Well, COVID hit, and I got that chance. How does the saying go, “be careful what you wish for,” because now, I was able to make mad cash, while working from home. In two months, I was in hell.

I worked for another software company when world started to open back up and I was back to the long commutes and the occasional trips to the office.

Thankfully, I was fired from that job.

Then, I started working for Jake, and Stay At Home Dad Mover. And well, now, we were all over the place. Everyday was somewhere and something different. And I found out, I liked it.

Still do.

I remember as a kid, well into my teenager years, as a student watching cars pass outside my window. And not the occasional car here and there, people were out in the world doing stuff. What the hell were they doing? Why weren’t they at work in an office?

Well, now I know, because well, I’m one of those people out and about making a living and grinding it out. I’m not stuck in an office, behind a screen, wishing I was OUT THERE doing stuff.

Don’t get me wrong, there are moments when I miss the break room, the security of showing up at one place, and well, the pay, man, do I miss the pay. But those moments are fleeting, because of the excitement of what can come next.

I got home from being OUT THERE, finished up some work tasks, and had Chinese for dinner and took my mom back to my brothers. When I got home, Lucy was re-watching Paradise since the new season is coming out.

I do like how it shot and the acting is pretty solid, but the premise of the show leaves me flat. I don’t know why. Maybe because they’re all trapped in an underground bunker and they can’t go back OUT THERE into the world (for good reason), but still it bothers me that they’re trapped.
