If I could have my way:
Like I Was Saying Newsletter
I’d love to write a weekly or bi-weekly newsletter.
What would it be in the Newsletter?
I’m a big fan of Tim Ferris’ 5 Bullet Friday. Tim talks about things on his mind, things he’s reading and watching, and quotes he’s pondering.
Of course, my newsletter would have pictures I’ve taken and projects I’m doing.
I’ve also stumbled upon Adrian from AOWS newsletter on Substack. It’s an excellent newsletter. I like his journals and some of the writing in his blog.
Thinking about it now, I’d probably start with a Bi-Weekly newsletter and maybe, if I can keep that up, move to a weekly newsletter.
Why write a Newsletter?
One is I like writing, telling stories, and sharing my thoughts on things.
It would be a fun exercise.
My goal is to write well. Write things people want to read. I want to inform and entertain.
Blog
I’ve written about keeping a proper blog. I’ve done alright so far with Skating the River. I’m still trying to emulate Eric Kim’s blog. The guy is, if nothing else, prolific.
I would still like my blog to be more visual, so more pictures.
I’d also like to write more essays on my blog. My blog thus far is my journey (which I don’t mind), but I’d like more thoughtful posts.
I’d also like to do slice-of-life pieces and record audio. I’ve seen it in a few places and love the idea.
YouTube Channel
Man, I’d love to make more videos. I’m always thinking about it, but it’s something I rarely do.
I want to make short films like Dan Milner. Sure, a few talking headpieces, but mainly these little short films or, as Dan calls them, “film sketches.”
These are the three things I’d love to focus on moving forward.
It all comes down to one central question I’m trying to answer: what’s the story?
I’ve got a major problem answering a straightforward question: so what?
What can I do to make something worth people’s time?
Look, I’m in the entrainment business.
That’s why I’m doing the things I do. I don’t make these things for their own sake but to entertain. I’ve never been a big fan of self-indulgent art.
Yes, I’m unique and have a singular point of view, but if you're not at least being entertaining, what’s the point?
If I can, I’d love to make people laugh if I can inform and entertain, even better.
I remember Steven Pressfield, apt titled book: Nobody Wants to Read Your Shit.
You gotta start there because you had better have something to show or read if you ask people to give you their most valuable asset - time.
That’s what I’m trying to do here: get better.
That’s what this blog is all about: getting better.
I’ve been trying to write something like this post for a while. I wanted to (needed to) articulate what I’m doing here.
This post is mainly for me. It’s a small sketch or map of what I’m trying to do.
