Marcos plays on a Select Rugby team called the AG Outlaws, sponsored by Austin's Major League Ruby team, the Austin Gilgronis (yes, we have a Major League Rugby team.)
They practice out in Burr Field in Austin, home of the Austin All Blacks, about a half-hour drive from my house. So it's better to wait for him, then drop him off and drive back to pick him up.
And I can hang out with Mark, my partner in crime on the Recruiting & Marketing team, and talk shop. Mark has a kick-ass Welsh accent and drops Rugby knowledge like it's candy on Halloween.
Walking up to the field, I see this cool, rustic-looking custom-made bench. And I notice the sign underneath it: Sports starts here. Cool.
And then the image popped in my head. Just like that, I saw the spot.
I begged Marcos to let me shoot him, putting on his cleats. He declined.
Luckily, another player, Nico, came bounding up for practice.
I asked him if I could shoot him putting on his cleats. He shrugged. "Sure."
But I only had one shot at this since the practice would start, and he was anxious to get out into the field.
So I did.
Shot handheld with my little Sony RX100 M7.
It made sense to make it black and white.
The Music came from Epidemic Sound.
The text I built in Canvas.
As of this writing, this is my favorite spot thus far.
